Name: Cante Noel
Age: 18
Race: Forsaken
Physical Description: Cante stands at about five feet and eight inches. He wears clothes that make his slim frame look bulkier than it really is. He has white hair and rather dark skin, which tends to give those who don’t know him the impression that he spends too much time in the sun. His violet eyes have pupils that look much like a cat’s if enough light hits them. His ears are slightly pointed, but don‘t stand out.
Cante doesn’t look like a Forsaken at a glance, due to surgeries forced upon him as a child. Most people tend to assume that he is a gifted who stands out a little more than most. He has faint scars along his shoulder blades and upper back, where his tail and wings once were. Also, if a person were to feel along his scalp, they’d feel slight bumps where his horns would have been. He tends not to have any complex about people seeing the marks on his back, but doesn't like his scalp being felt up, since it's a little harder to explain those bumps away.
He's always well dressed and has a thing for white trench coats. Cante likes to appear well put together, but doesn't care if his clothes get rumpled or dirty during the course of the day.
Special Abilities: Cante has an easier time seeing in the dark than most people, due to the nature of his eyes. As long as he has a little bit of light, Cante is able to see in lighting that most humans would stumble through.
He also has incredible upper body strength despite the fact that he doesn't appear to have much muscle and is able to crush iron if he so chooses to, though he usually will only exercise this power if absolutely necessary. His strength also makes it easier for him to climb or do anything that involves heavy lifting.
Cante received an excellent education and his literacy surpasses that of most citizens. He also has a crude understanding of some of the written languages from before the cataclysm. He's good at math, but only has a basic understanding of algebra. Other areas of expertise include basic biology, physics and logic.
Personality: The image Cante puts forth is that of a witty, cheerful young man. He generally has a pleasant air about him, but can be a bit of a snob sometimes, though he's been trying to suck it up a little bit and not act spoiled. At a glance, he appears to be free from rage, but he actually has a strong temper that can flare unexpectedly.
Until recently, Cante has been raised in lap of wealthy and luxury and he's having a hard time adjusting to the idea that he's now just like everyone else. He can on occasion appear rather inept when it comes to things that most common folk take for granted.
He's absurdly polite and well mannered towards women, all women, no matter their age, race or social status. Even if they get on his last nerve, Cante will remain polite even if he secretly wishes to strangle them. He's not a womanizer though and doesn't seem to desire a relationship at this point in his life, as he'd rather not have to explain that he's a Forsaken.
He'll also be fairly polite towards most men, though if angered enough and if there is no woman around to offend, he becomes extremely short tempered, sometimes to the point of swearing like a sailor, a habit that he is slipping more into now that there is no one around to reprimand him for being improper.
He's estranged from most of his adoptive family, due to his oldest brother kicking him out recently. Cante still manages to keep in touch with his other siblings and is trying to keep them from worrying. He wants to get his brother to forgive him, but isn't exactly sure how to go about it and his pride also gets in the way at times.
His feelings towards humans and forsaken are mixed. He’s recently began to become disillusioned with the mortals due to his family situation and the realization that they wouldn’t have anything to do with him if they knew what he really was, no matter how accomplished he is.
He's a little friendlier towards Forsaken, but also tends to be rather shy and won't reveal that he is also Forsaken, feeling that it is better to be seen as a mortal than as some mutilated traitor who clings to human ways. He also feels that to admit he's Forsaken would severely cut down on his opportunities in life.
Occupation: Currently unemployed. He was kicked out of his family’s home just a few days ago with only a few suitcases of his own possessions. He's been trying to find employment, but it seems that most businesses in Citadel refuse to have anything to do with him, least his brother make things difficult for them. His sister Ivy has been giving him some money from her own dowry, but it's only enough for a week.
His lack of employable skills has also made the job hunt difficult. He'd be willing to take a more labor intensive job though, due to his strength, even though he doesn't want to, but his pride keeps him from doing so, least he lose face in front of his brother. If he doesn't have a job by the end of the week, he plans on going to either Warstien or Kyrne, where he'll have more opportunities and not have to worry about family.
Faults and Weaknesses: Cante is often on edge that others might discover what he really is and use it against him or his family. It'd be a good source of blackmail, if angered enough, he also might actually kill the person who tried it.
In conversations where Forsaken come up, Cante has a hard time being neutral and often has to suppress the urge to snap at others. He also finds it hard to not snap at Forsaken who are biased against humans. He'll either try to change the subject or become very short and abrupt. Or he'll not make any pretense about his real feelings and can be fairly cutting.
He comes off as a spoiled brat and this often causes others to snub him or to try and rob him under the impression that he must have a lot on him. Upper class people who know of his being kicked out also snub him, so as not to make his brother their enemy. And many men hate his politeness towards women, mistaking it for flirting.
Cante's eyes can't take too much light being thrown at them at once and if hit with an excess amount of light, it takes longer for him to adjust than a normal person would. He can function in the sunlight alright, but he prefers the softer light of candles to the sun and likes the early morning and twilight hours the best. His vision doesn't function in complete darkness though and he will be as blind as anyone else if there is no light to see by.
While he is strong and does more or less know how to control that strength in most situations, Cante doesn't know much about fighting and could easily hurt someone with out meaning to or cause a great deal of damage.
History: Cante was stolen from his parents at the age of eight by a group of unscrupulous scientist who did experiments on Forsaken. The men had no morals and basically tortured their victims in the cruelest ways imaginable. Cante had his wings, tail and horns removed, without any form of anesthesia. He was one of the lucky ones; many children were left crippled, either mentally or physically, or else they died.
The scientists were eventually caught and forced to disband. Cante, whose parents couldn't be found, was taken in by Preston Noel, a wealthy landowner from Citadel. Preston didn't take him in out of any pure intentions. Preston fancied himself an amateur researcher of sorts and felt that Cante would be an excellent social experiment: What would happen if a Forsaken was able to live in human society free of the disadvantages that came from human prejudices towards Forsaken? It suited Preston's arrogance and Cante wasn't exactly in a position to say no to him. His experiences in the lab had left him traumatized and his memories of his former life were fuzzy at best, so he was more than willing to latch onto the first friendly face he saw, as didn't even remember that he wasn't human and should have been wary of those who were.
Thus, he took Cante into his family, passing him off as a young Gifted he had generously taken in. Cante was given the same advantages as the other six children of the Noel family and grew up as any noble would, though he never really forgot that he was only there because of Preston's "good will." Still, he grew to love his new family and life and decided that he could tolerate almost anything if it meant he didn't have to leave.
There grew to be a rift between Cante and his brother Leon though. Both were the same age and were often compared to each other. Cante admired Leon and at first Leon held quite a bit of respect towards him as well. But, as their differences became more obvious and Preston set them more and more against each other, Leon became hostile towards Cante. While he was just as intelligent and capable as his adopted brother, Leon lacked charisma and tended to struggle where Cante succeeded.
Around the age of sixteen or so, Leon and Cante both found out he was actually a Forsaken quite by accident, when as part of a dare, they'd broken into Preston's private study, a place forbidden to the family, and stolen one of his books, which just happened to detail how he'd come to find Cante. Cante was in shock for days and afterwards, he developed a bit of a temper. As for Leon, he'd found an excuse for his hatred and something to hold over his brother and used it fully.
The situation continued to deteriorate after that until several fights had resulted between the two of them, one of which turned physical and left Leon with a severally mangled arm which caused Cante a great deal of guilt, as Leon's arm has never fully healed.
Things came to a head when Preston died and Leon was given full reign over the family fortune, being the oldest son. Before Cante could even blink, he found himself out on the streets. Even though he was shocked and a little appalled, Cante didn't really take things seriously at first, figuring it was just for the night.
When it became obvious that Leon meant business, Cante decided he had to get realistic and find a job. Unfortunately, Leon's resentment ran deep and he went out of his way to block Cante's attempts at finding employment. One of his sisters, Ivy, has offered him enough money for the week and his found a cheap inn to stay in, in one of the seedier parts of town.

LOL, that is the understatement of the century. Not only is he fairly naive, but any female character could easily put him under her thumb.
