 Sarah Wolfe (Seth Avery)

Name: Sarah (Seth Avery)

Age: 16

Race: Human

Physical Description:

Petite and willowy Sarah stands at 5'5 and weighs only 119 lbs. Her hair is black and straight, falling to the middle of her back and her eyes are a dark enough brown to appear black. She dresses as feminine and as formally as her activities allow her to, making alterations to her clothing to conceal imperfections and imitate the female figure she simply doesn’t have in some areas. Although her obsession with her appearance might make her seem vain it is an exercise in self-preservation more than a preoccupation with physical beauty.

Special Abilities:

Sarah has no special abilities to speak of, unless being a pretty good cook counts. Although she knows how to handle weaponry like bows and guns and knives thanks to her father she dislikes them and is out of practice which affects her accuracy and skill.

Personality:

Sarah is transgendered, physically male (born Seth Avery) and mentally a straight female. She has been cross-dressing and living as a woman for the last three years. She is still a virgin in every sense and has in fact developed such a sense of rejection and shame toward her male body that she has little experience with self-pleasure either.

She is happiest dressed up prettily in the company of ‘other’ women and gains a sense of pride and peace each time she can get through another day without anyone suspecting that she isn’t what she projects herself as.

Ultimately she wishes she could really have the body of a woman and places all the weight of that dream on rumours she has heard about a Forsaken with the power to shape flesh into any form the buyer could want...

Sarah gets along wonderfully with ‘other’ women but rather poorly with men. Nearly every male she has known or grown close to has abused her in some way and she has an ingrained sense of mistrust toward them. Although sexually attracted to men she is always looking out for the ones who will hurt her and it takes her a great deal of time and patience to be at ease with a particular person. Although she can freely give her trust to other females, men need to earn it from her, and her inherit shyness makes casual social contact with men a tongue-tying, fumbling sort of affair.

Sarah can read at what we would consider a second grade level, just well enough to get by with signs and simple math. The school is currently attending is educating her on reading and writing to bring her up to what we would consider an eighth or ninth grade level depending on her dedication to the studies. Sarah generally finds math much easier than reading as numbers are concrete in a way that language just isn’t. She is picking up concepts like division and multiplication much faster than grammar rules.

Sarah has no interest in drugs or heavy drinking, having seen quite enough people high and plastered trying to molest young waitresses to deter her from the idea. She generally has a poor opinion of people who drink or do drugs in excess, but she feels badly for those who she knows abuse substances to drown other problems and pains.

Sarah wants to be law abiding but found that stealing became irresistible when she was faced with valuable items and employers who refused to pay her more than a few copper a day for hours of cleaning in their homes. She regarded her brief crime spree as a means to an end and she did her best to make it an exercise in justice along the way by stealing only from those who could afford to lose it and by sometimes sharing her spoils with her fellow underpaid workers.

Sarah envies the wealthy but finds many of them to be snobbish and poorly adjusted to other people. She has hard time wrapping her head around the sheer dishonesty of some of the noble classes, but considers their behaviour to be – at times - a product of their rearing. When she began stealing to pay her tuition she took from the homes that had the most money and who treated other classes the most poorly. She finds it close to impossible to have any dislike for those who live rough lives in the lower classes, firstly because she can sense their turmoil and worry and secondly because it was the same life she grew up living.

She finds that the physical look of Forsaken often frightens her but she doesn’t actively try to shun them. She is by instinct afraid of larger creatures – human and non alike – and the monstrous features of Forsaken make her even shyer. Her heightened empathy makes it hard for her to feel anything but sympathy for them but she still finds it hard to hold a conversation with one, no matter how well she might wish them from afar.

Sarah’s life revolves around getting the best grades in order to make sure she can remain at the Daughters of Diana Academy in the coming year, on the offered second year scholarship, so that she will not need the help of her current benefactor Lady Tremaine. She saves any little side-money she receives to pay the anticipated exorbitant price to change her body.

She is also struggling to make connections in the underworld of the Citadel, in order to find the rumoured Forsaken with the power to mould flesh.

Sarah loves nice things, but can’t afford them. Buying anything material – jewellery or the like – makes her feel guilty for not saving her cash.

Sarah spent most of her life unable to afford to be picky, and as such, she’s not. She will eat anything you put in front of her that isn’t rotten or uncooked. However, she does love sweet foods and fresh vegetables – two things she hardly got to lay eyes upon when growing up in the family’s home on Kyrne.

Occupation:

Sarah worked herself ragged for three years to save up the money for a year of tuition to the school that she is now living at, the Daughters of Diana Academy for Young Women. In the end she was saved of having to work three more years by her elderly benefactor, Lady Tremaine, who paid the remainder of Sarah’s tuition, partly out of a want to see Sarah achieve her dream and partly to use Sarah toward her own ulterior motives.

Although Sarah is uncomfortable receiving Lady Tremaine’s charity, she is far too eager for her chance to be at Diana's to turn away her offer. She visits her former employer whenever she has time and struggles to excel in her studies so that she might be able to attend her school on an award scholarship the next year and no longer have to rely on Lady Tremaine's kindness to pay her way. While she is in school she does not work, but learns. Tuition has paid for her room and board for the year.

Faults and Weaknesses:

Sarah is vastly over-sympathetic. She is gullible around people who seem distraught and is genuinely grieved by the pain of total strangers, wanting to help anyone who appears to be outcast as she has been. Even people who are bitter and angry and treat others poorly earn her sympathy if she thinks there is something underlying and a good actor could easily get her into a lot of trouble with a few little lies.

Sarah is also somewhat paranoid about being around other people. Although each day that passes gives her confidence in her presentation of herself as female, one bad event – even something as simple as being told she has rough hands – can set her back months in terms of confidence. She is good at altering her voice in order to sound properly female, but any involuntary sounds – a cry of pain, a gasp at something surprising – may come out sounding much different and give away the deeper voice underlying.

Her nervousness around men is problematic for her on a day to day basis. She shies from their touches, gets tongue tied around them. Her social skills in general suffer and bring her a fair amount of teasing from the other girls at Diana's.

She is also deathly afraid of being recognized by anyone who might come to the Citadel from Kyrne. The last she heard about her family her father was on the warpath, absolutely set on finding and killing his bastard shame of a son.

Each time she runs aground of anyone from the underbelly of Kyrne she considers them an enemy and someone to be hidden from. She risks being recognized anytime she hunts around the underground areas and drug dens for information about the flesh-shaper Forsaken. Her father has all his best contacts through friends in the drug world and has essentially placed a price on her head.

So far new clothes, longer hair, and her practiced effeminate voice have kept her from being recognized but she has had close scrapes with familiar faces before.

She also has an ingrained kneejerk racism toward Forsaken, something she had carried forward from how her entire family spoke of them as if they were brutes and beasts. Although empathetic to those who are mistreated she does tend to think that Forsaken are - simply - stupider than humans. Although she would't begrudge them a well-paying job, she would not automatically think them capable of handling a complicated task.

She slights them without even realizing it alot of the time, although never in reference to their physical disadvantages, as she knows the pain of a body that doesn't cooperate with your intentions all too well

History:
Sarah was born ‘Seth Avery’, the third of four children of the Avery family in Kyrne.

From a young age Seth recognized a certain envy for his two sisters. Raised to ‘be a man’ by his intensely traditional and also intensely violent father Seth never quite fit daddy’s model of a ‘perfect son’.

Brace Avery had gotten himself mixed in with the drug dealers in Kyrne at a young age and through his teens and twenties was a body guard for the biggest dealer in the business. He handled not only his bosses security but also assassinations and raids on rival dealer groups. When he met Seth’s mother she begged him to retire from such a dangerous life, and he did so for her despite the trouble it brought him.

Although happy to be a family man and hunt wild game to put food on the table for his family something primal in Brace was long unsatisfied. By the time Seth was born he had become a disturbed and restless man, hunting more often than he was home and driving himself to his limits in pursuit of the kill.

He took his sons out with him all the time, showing them the power of a man over a creature and revelling in the violence. Seth’s older brother Vaughn thrived on the gore and encouraged their father to tell stories of the times when he used to kill other people for money. Brace made it clear what he thought of that – “Human beings are the most wonderful prey in the world, the only real challenge for a good huntsman. I hope at least once you’ll get the chance to see another man die by your hands. There is no better power than to be able to take life.”

Seth found all such activities with his father horrifying and came to regard the man as a monster in a human body. Each hunt brought waves of anguish and anxiety and more and more he would fake sick to stay home from hunting and field work, cowering behind the sympathy of his mother and sisters who blamed his skinny body and poor metabolism for making him ill all the time.

Seth longed to be at home every day like his sisters – working at household chores with his mother, doing simple feminine tasks like sewing and cooking. He envied other women for their figures and faces. He began to let his hair grow long, tucking the ponytail down the back of his shirts to keep his father from cutting it off, and quietly, secretly, he would find times when no one else was home to creep into his youngest sister’s room and try on her clothes…

One day, left alone in the house with his sisters and mother in town and father and Vaughn gone on a hunt, he stood in front of the mirror in Miria’s bedroom, wearing her best shoes, her favourite dress, her lip paint and blush. He let his hair down around his shoulders and knew at once what he had longed for underneath all along.

He began dressing in his sister's clothes as often as possible, struggling to force his deepening voice to higher octaves, posing demurely before his mirror at night.

Then on the day his father found him, all the carefully kept secrets went to hell..

Seth found himself thrown out into the front yard, still wearing his sister's best dress and shoes, cuffed upside the head so hard his ears rang. All his worldly possessions were pitched out after him like stones hurled at a harlot awaiting death. His father screamed after him, a disgrace, a sacrilege, and threatened his life more than once.

Pawning his few unbroken possessions gave Seth just enough money for a train ticket to the Citadel.

With only his sister's dress for clothing Seth took the opportunity to start attempting to live as a woman. He chose the name Sarah Wolfe for himself after hearing a beautiful young woman and her lover greeting each other with those names at the train station.

Sarah's first job in the citadel was as a waitress, then after a bad incident involving several men attempting to feel her up she was fired and took on work cleaning the homes of a number of wealthy families. It was at these wealthy people's homes – scrubbing their floors – that Sarah first heard of the Daughters of Diana Academy for Young Women.

The Daughters of Diana was an esteemed finishing school for the daughters of the wealthy in the citadel. A woman named Diana Crawford – well respected for her fine manners and for raising six debutante daughters of her own – had opened a school from her estate home. Every two years she accepted ten girls into a program of her own devising to teach them social graces, mathematics and reading, proper etiquette and the most excellent table manners in the known cities. If one wished to learn to be an elegant lady Diana's was where to go. There was also an absolutely cutthroat competition among the noble families as to getting their daughters accepted – not for the educational value but for the instant contact it made with Diana's wealthy mine-owning husband and the equally wealthy and successful husbands of Diana's six daughters. Those sort of connections were worth more to most parents than Diana's expertise.

Sarah, being paid barely six copper a day for her work was devastated to find that the program cost ten gold per girl per year. She could barely save three copper a month. Ten gold seemed insurmountable. After a year of hard labour and finding that she got no closer to the savings she would need, Sarah began to steal from the richest of her employers to add to her savings.

Around the time she had saved up five gold, Sarah met Lady Tremaine. The woman hired Sarah exclusively to clean her house after meeting her while Sarah was scrubbing floors at the home of one of her acquaintances.

Sarah quickly found that the Lady Tremaine needed more than house cleaning. She was a woman in need of companionship. During the time that she lived and worked in the Tremaine home Sarah found herself invited to take a break and drink tea with her employer. The woman's loneliness and longing was practically visible to Sarah and she was never able to say no.

Then while cleaning the study room Sarah discovered a diploma – the certificate of Lady Tremaine's graduation from the Daughters of Diana Academy. Sarah couldn't help herself and asked her about the place the next chance she got.

Jasmine Tremaine let the floodgates open.

Jasmine's daughter Lydia had died three years before, when she had been about Sarah's age. A graceful girl with long dark hair and brown eyes Lydia could have been Sarah's sister and Jasmine had in fact saved up money to send Lydia to Diana's – but never got the chance. He daughter grew deathly ill from a small infection and died suddenly. But more than that, Lady Tremaine was certain that her daughter had been purposefully murdered by her doctors to open up her spot at Diana's for their own daughter, Anne Quinn.

Lydia had outshone Anne by miles at the entrance interviews and when Diana Crawford chose Lydia, despite Anne's family having offered to pay thrice the tuition, they were furious. (Although Anne was accepted to the school after Lydia's death, the fact that she had passed on under the care of Dr. Robert and Maria Quinn did not go unnoticed by Lady Crawford. She charged the family four times the tuition for each year and refused their attempts at gaining connections with her husband and daughters at every turn, determined to punish them in some way for their crime.)

Jasmine Tremaine offered to foot the rest of Sarah's tuition to Diana's if she would agree to do her best to become the top of the class 'in Lydia's honour' – an offer that Sarah could hardly have refused even if she had wanted to! Lady Tremaine then spent the summer preparing Sarah for her entrance interview, offering her dead daughter's old clothes to the young maid and running her through a crash course of the basic manners and etiquette that the other girls would arrive already knowing.

Diana Crawford was no less than impressed at what a quick study Sarah was, not to mention her eagerness for the program, something rare in the upper classes where most girls presumed the Academy to be a social networking scheme and not a place for education. Partly in joy to find a good student, and in sorrow of wanting to ease Jasmine Tremaine's loss, Diana accepted Sarah for the program.

Now beginning her fall at Diana's, Sarah faces the daunting task of fooling a new host of strangers into believing that she has the body that goes with her girlish act and navigating a social world she is vastly unfamiliar with.

Scales, okay, just a few scales. She could deal with that. It was better than trying to talk to someone with horns that she couldn't stop staring at. Scales were almost negligible.

she indulged in stroking her thumb over his knuckles before withdrawing shyly, realizing suddenly that perhaps he didn't like his deformities being fawned at that way.

Oh, man. This is too funny compared to our other characters with Io. ;D

Sarah is worried to touch Kale because he might be ashamed of his deformities, even though he's practically proud of them. ("Go ahead, girly. Touch 'em. They feel nice...")

It's the stark opposite from Adeline who really wants to touch Io but he flips out over the littlest things. I love this contrast. =)

Arrow loops -- verticle slitted windows used by archers in castles. A practical design that makes it easy to shoot, but conveniently hard to be shot at.

I love Sarah! Think she'd ever be in town to run into Io while he's running an errand for Adeline or something?

I'd love to play a scene with them together, but only if you think they'd have something to talk about, yeah? Let me know what you think!

Sarah and Io could have fun shopping for clothes! Now that Sarah has some money behind her she wants to have a dress custom made for her to make her look sweet and feminine, and she and Io maybe could meet at a tailor's place getting clothing made for themselves.

^^ And, just because Io is Forsaken and it shows, she'd probably be nervous around him but she'd HAVE to ask if he knows 'Jagermeister' and they would end up in a conversation about changing things once she explains to him about Gott's powers.

Io would be like - could he really change my hands?' and he'd also probably rib Sarah with the 'you look perfect, what do YOU want changed?' thing. ^^

I can write us a thread starter tomorrow if you like! ^^ (gotta go to bed right now <3 I'll see you tomorrow!)
